특히 이 마을은 단순한 관광지가 아닌 실제로 한지 생산기술을 보유한 장인 수준의 주민 10여 명이 거주하며 전통을 이어가고 있는 살아있는 문화공간이랍니다. 한지 제조부터 체험, 숙박까지 가능한 전국 유일의 한지 테마마을로, 2024년에는 한국관광 품질인증업소로 선정되어 그 가치를 인정받았습니다.

대승한지마을의 중심 전시공간인 승지관에서는 한지의 역사와 가치를 보여주는 다양한 전시물을 만나볼 수 있어요. "완주 한지의 위상(位相)" 패널을 통해 소양면의 한지 생산 역사와 대표 장인들에 대해 알아볼 수 있고, 전통과 현대 한지 공예품들도 감상할 수 있습니다.

승지관에 들어서면 무료로 닥나무 차를 마실 수 있는데, 이 차는 항암 작용, 미백 효과, 시력 개선, 변비 개선에 도움이 된다고 해요. 로비에는 한지로 만든 다양한 상품들도 구경할 수 있답니다.

한지 생활사 전시관

"대승마을 한지 박물관"으로도 불리는 한지 생활사 전시관은 전통관과 현대관으로 나뉘어 한지가 우리 생활 문화 속에서 어떻게 활용되어 왔는지 보여줍니다. 닥종이 인형으로 한지 제작 과정을 이해하기 쉽게 전시하고 있어요.

"완주지역의 지소(紙所)" 패널에서는 완주군의 소양면, 구이면, 동상면, 화산면, 비봉면 등 도처에서 한지를 생산해왔던 역사를 확인할 수 있습니다. 특히 소양면이 그 중심이었으며, 1980년대까지도 종이 뜨는 곳을 지소라고 불렀다는 역사적 사실도 알 수 있어요.

What is Daeseung Hanji Village?

Located in Shinwon-ri, Soyang-myeon, Wanju, Daeseung Hanji Village was established in 2010 to preserve the thousand-year history of hanji (Korean paper) that dates back to the Baekje period. This area has been producing traditional paper for over 400 years using clean water and mulberry trees. The village was selected for the Ministry of Public Administration and Security's "Creating Livable Regions" project in 2007, with an investment of 3.5 billion won, and officially opened in September 2010.

What makes this village special is that it's not just a tourist attraction but a living cultural space where about 10 residents with master-level paper-making skills continue the tradition. It's the only hanji-themed village in Korea where you can experience everything from paper manufacturing to hands-on activities and accommodation. In 2024, it was certified as a Korea Tourism Quality-certified establishment, recognizing its value.

Seungji Hall

At Seungji Hall, the central exhibition space of Daeseung Hanji Village, you can discover various exhibits showing the history and value of hanji. Through the "Status of Wanju Hanji" panel, you can learn about the history of hanji production in Soyang-myeon and its master craftspeople, while also appreciating both traditional and modern hanji crafts.

When you enter Seungji Hall, you can enjoy free mulberry tree tea, which is said to help with anti-cancer effects, skin whitening, vision improvement, and constipation relief. In the lobby, you can also browse various products made from hanji.

Hanji Lifestyle Exhibition Hall

Also known as the "Daeseung Village Hanji Museum," the Hanji Lifestyle Exhibition Hall is divided into traditional and modern sections, showing how hanji has been used in our cultural life. The paper-making process is displayed in an easy-to-understand way using mulberry paper dolls.

Hanji has been an essential material in human life, like water or air, used for everything from artistic creations like books and paintings to everyday necessities like window paper, wallpaper, and fans. It was also used to make various lifestyle products such as armor, cotton, shoes, and clothes.

Exhibition of Wanju Region's Paper Mills

The "Paper Mills of Wanju Region" panel shows the history of hanji production throughout Wanju County, including Soyang-myeon, Gui-myeon, Dongsang-myeon, Hwasan-myeon, and Bibong-myeon. Soyang-myeon was the center, and you can learn that until the 1980s, paper-making places were called "jiso."
