안녕하세요, 완주에서 뭐 하지? 모지완주입니다.

주말마다 아이와 뭘 하며 시간을 보낼지 고민하던 중, 최근 리모델링을 마쳤다는 완주도서관 꿈채움에 다녀왔습니다. 1988년 개관 이후 35년 만에 완전히 새단장했다는 소식을 듣고 기대 반 걱정 반으로 방문했는데, 결론부터 말하자면 정말 만족스러운 하루였습니다. 아이도 너무 좋아해서 다음 주말에도 가자고 조르네요.

첫 방문, 주차부터 난관이었다

완주도서관 꿈채움은 완주군 봉동읍 봉동서로 109에 있습니다. 네비게이션에 '전북특별자치도교육청완주도서관'이나 '완주도서관 꿈채움'으로 검색하면 바로 나옵니다.

도착해서 보니 도서관 앞 주차장은 4~5대 정도밖에 주차할 수 없는 작은 공간이었습니다. 솔직히 처음엔 '이게 다야?' 싶었는데, 바로 옆 유치원 쪽에 공영주차장이 넓게 마련되어 있더군요. 주말이라 도서관 이용객이 많았지만 공영주차장은 여유로워서 편하게 주차할 수 있었습니다. 봉동생강골시장 공영주차장도 걸어서 5분 거리라 참고하시면 좋을 것 같습니다.

도서관 입구부터 확 달라진 분위기

주차장에서 도서관으로 걸어 들어가는데 아이가 "아빠, 여기 새 건물 아니야?"라고 물어볼 정도로 외관부터 깨끗했습니다. 2023년 12월 리모델링을 끝내고 재개관했다고 하는데, 정말 새 건물처럼 말끔했습니다.

 

입구에 들어서자마자 화이트 톤의 밝은 인테리어가 눈에 들어왔습니다. 카페나 서점 같은 분위기라고 할까요? 아이도 "우와" 하며 눈이 휘둥그레졌습니다. 요즘 트렌디한 복합문화공간 느낌이었어요.

회원가입은 필수, 생각보다 간단했다

도서관을 이용하려면 회원가입이 필요합니다. 홈페이지에서 미리 온라인 가입을 하고 왔는데, 현장에서 신분증만 제시하면 회원증을 바로 발급받을 수 있었습니다. 아이는 가족관계증명서를 가져가야 한다고 해서 미리 준비해갔습니다.

다행히 책이음카드가 있으면 여러 도서관에서 통합으로 사용할 수 있어서 편리했습니다. 사서 선생님께 책이음카드를 드리니 바로 연결해주셨어요. 이미 다른 도서관 회원증이 있으시다면 책이음 연계 여부를 확인해보시는 걸 추천합니다.

1층 어린이 자료실, 아이의 천국

아이를 데리고 가장 먼저 들른 곳은 1층 어린이 자료실이었습니다. 신발을 벗고 들어가는 유아 자료실부터 초등학생용 도서까지 다양하게 구비되어 있었어요.

유아 자료실은 놀이터 같았다

유아 자료실은 바닥에 쿠션이 깔려 있어서 아이들이 편하게 앉아서 그림책을 볼 수 있게 꾸며져 있었습니다. 밝은 색상의 책장과 귀여운 인형들이 곳곳에 배치되어 있어서 키즈카페에 온 것 같은 느낌이었어요.

우리 아이는 그림책 코너에서 한참을 꼼짝도 않고 책을 읽더군요. 평소에 집에서는 5분도 못 앉아 있던 녀석이 말이죠. 역시 환경이 중요한가 봅니다.

어린이 자료실은 보물창고

유아 자료실 옆에는 초등학생을 위한 어린이 자료실이 있습니다. 동화책, 위인전, 학습만화, 교양서적까지 정말 다양한 책들이 체계적으로 정리되어 있었어요.

특히 인상적이었던 건 책 상태가 너무 좋았다는 점입니다. 공공도서관이면 으레 오래되고 낡은 책 냄새가 나기 마련인데, 여기는 관리가 정말 잘 되어 있는지 책 상태가 양호했습니다. 새 책도 많았고요.

상상마루라는 이름의 독서 공간도 마음에 들었습니다. 창가 쪽에 앉아서 자연광을 받으며 책을 읽을 수 있는 공간인데, 아이가 여기서 30분 넘게 책을 읽더군요. 보통 집에서는 10분도 안 되어 딴짓하는데 말이죠.

DVD도 빌릴 수 있다는 반전

1층에는 DVD 대여 자료도 있었습니다. 애니메이션부터 교육용 영상까지 다양하게 구비되어 있더군요. 도서관 내에 DVD를 볼 수 있는 모니터실도 3개 정도 있어서, 현장에서 바로 감상할 수도 있습니다.

도서 검색대는 터치스크린 방식이었는데, 아이도 쉽게 사용할 수 있을 정도로 직관적이었습니다. 검색하고 위치를 출력하면 중앙 프린터에서 종이가 나와서 책 위치를 쉽게 찾을 수 있었어요.

2층은 나를 위한 공간

아이가 1층에서 책을 고르는 동안, 잠시 2층에 올라가봤습니다. 계단을 오르는 순간부터 분위기가 확 달라지더군요. 멋진 북카페 인테리어 같다는 생각이 들었어요.

종합자료실, 어른들의 서재

2층 종합자료실은 성인을 위한 공간입니다. 문학, 인문, 사회과학, 자연과학 등 다양한 분야의 책들이 빼곡하게 꽂혀 있었습니다. 최신 베스트셀러부터 전문 학술서까지 없는 게 없더군요.

화이트 톤의 깔끔한 인테리어 덕분에 더 쾌적하게 느껴졌습니다. 오래된 책 냄새가 거의 나지 않았고, 곳곳에 배치된 공기청정기 덕분인지 실내 공기도 상쾌했어요.

 

열람공간은 카페 부럽지 않았다

꿈마루와 채움마루라는 이름의 열람 공간이 있는데, 정말 카페 같은 분위기였습니다. 개인 학습 좌석과 테이블이 넓직하게 배치되어 있어서 공부하기에 최적이었어요.

평일에는 저녁 9시까지 이용할 수 있다고 하니, 직장인들도 퇴근 후 들러서 책을 읽거나 자기계발 시간을 가질 수 있겠더군요. 주말인데도 자리가 거의 다 차있을 정도로 인기가 많았습니다.

최신 시설에 감탄했다

도서관 곳곳에 최신 편의시설이 갖춰져 있었습니다. 무인 대출 반납 키오스크가 있어서 사서님의 도움 없이도 쉽게 책을 빌리고 반납할 수 있었어요.

책 소독기도 비치되어 있더군요. 아이가 빌린 책을 소독기에 넣고 나왔는데, 위생적으로 책을 이용할 수 있어서 좋았습니다. 특히 요즘 같은 시국에는 이런 시설이 정말 필요하다는 생각이 들었어요.

대출은 20일, 10권까지

도서 대출 규정을 확인해보니 1인당 10권까지 20일간 빌릴 수 있다고 하더군요. 다른 도서관보다 넉넉한 편이라 부담 없이 여러 권을 빌릴 수 있었습니다.

우리 아이는 그림책 5권, 제가 소설책 3권을 빌렸습니다. 무인 대출기에 회원증 바코드를 스캔하고 책 바코드를 인식시키니 간단하게 대출이 완료되었어요.

독서의 달 행사도 진행 중

1층 입구에 독서의 달 행사 포스터가 붙어 있었습니다. 9월부터 11월까지 다양한 프로그램이 운영된다고 하더군요. 독서 퀴즈, 북토크, 작가와의 만남 등 재미있는 행사가 많았어요.

매월 주제별 도서 전시도 열리는데, 간단한 활동지를 작성하면 작은 선물도 준다고 합니다. 아이가 활동지를 하겠다고 해서 함께 참여했는데, 스티커와 책갈피를 선물로 받았어요. 아이가 정말 좋아하더군요.

운영시간과 휴관일 체크 필수

도서관 이용 전 꼭 알아야 할 정보가 있습니다. 일요일은 휴관입니다. 저희는 토요일에 갔는데, 만약 일요일에 갔다면 헛걸음했을 뻔했어요.

자료실은 평일 월요일부터 금요일까지, 그리고 토요일 오전 9시부터 오후 6시까지 운영됩니다. 열람공간은 평일에는 저녁 9시까지 이용 가능하니 참고하세요.

주변에 생강골시장도 있어 좋았다

도서관 이용 후 봉동생강골시장에 들렀습니다. 도보로 5분 거리라 가깝더군요. 시장에서 저녁거리도 사고 간식도 먹으면서 알찬 주말을 보냈습니다.

봉동은 생강으로 유명한 지역이라 시장에서 신선한 생강과 농산물을 구입할 수 있었어요. 토요일 장날이라 그런지 더 활기찼고요. 도서관 방문과 시장 구경을 함께하는 코스도 추천합니다.

다음 주말에도 가고 싶은 곳

집으로 돌아오는 차 안에서 아이가 "아빠, 다음 주에도 가자"라고 말하더군요. 책도 많고 깨끗하고 편해서 정말 좋았다고 합니다.

완주에 이렇게 좋은 도서관이 있는 줄 몰랐습니다. 리모델링 후 시설도 최신식이고, 무엇보다 아이와 함께 시간을 보내기에 정말 좋은 공간이었어요. 독서하고 공부하고 싶어지는 분위기랄까요?

While pondering what to do with my child every weekend, I visited Wanju Library Kkumcheum, which recently completed renovation. Having heard news that it was completely renovated for the first time in 35 years since opening in 1988, I visited with half expectation and half concern, but to conclude, it was a really satisfying day. My child loved it so much that they're begging to go again next weekend.

First Visit, Parking Was the First Challenge

Wanju Library Kkumcheum is located at 109 Bongdong-seo-ro, Bongdong-eup, Wanju-gun. If you search for "Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province Office of Education Wanju Library" or "Wanju Library Kkumcheum" on navigation, it comes right up.

Upon arrival, I found that the parking lot in front of the library was a small space that could only accommodate about 4-5 cars. Honestly, at first I thought "Is this all?" but there was a large public parking lot right next to the kindergarten. Although it was weekend and there were many library visitors, the public parking lot had plenty of space so I could park comfortably. For reference, Bongdong Saenggangol Market public parking lot is also within 5 minutes walking distance.

Different Atmosphere from Library Entrance

Walking from the parking lot to the library, my child asked "Dad, isn't this a new building?" - it was clean enough from the exterior. I heard it completed renovation and reopened in December 2023, and it really was neat like a new building.

As soon as I entered the entrance, bright white-tone interiors caught my eye. Should I say it's like a cafe or bookstore atmosphere? My child's eyes widened saying "Wow". It felt like a trendy complex cultural space these days.

Membership Registration Required, Simpler Than Expected

Membership registration is necessary to use the library. I did online registration in advance on the website, and could immediately get membership card issued by just presenting ID on site. I heard that for children, family relationship certificate was needed, so I prepared it in advance.

Fortunately, if you have a Book Integration Card, you can use it integrated across multiple libraries, which was convenient. When I gave my Book Integration Card to the librarian, they connected it right away. If you already have other library membership cards, I recommend checking whether Book Integration linkage is possible.

First Floor Children's Reference Room, Child's Paradise

The place I visited first with my child was the first floor children's reference room. From the infant reference room where you take off shoes to books for elementary students, various materials were available.

Infant Reference Room Was Like a Playground

The infant reference room had cushioned flooring so children could sit comfortably and look at picture books. With bright-colored bookshelves and cute dolls placed throughout, it felt like being at a kids cafe.

My child stayed still reading picture books at the picture book corner for quite a while. This kid who couldn't sit for even 5 minutes at home. I guess environment is important after all.

Children's Reference Room Was a Treasure Trove

Next to the infant reference room is a children's reference room for elementary students. Fairy tales, biographies, educational comics, and educational books - really various books were systematically organized.

What was particularly impressive was that the book conditions were so good. Public libraries usually have old and worn book smells, but here the management was really good so the book conditions were favorable. There were also many new books.

I also liked the reading space called Sangsangmaru (Imagination Floor). It's a space where you can sit by the window and read books receiving natural light, and my child read books here for over 30 minutes. Usually at home they fidget in less than 10 minutes.

Surprising Twist - DVDs Can Be Borrowed Too

There were also DVD rental materials on the first floor. Various materials from animations to educational videos were available. There were also about 3 monitor rooms in the library where you could watch DVDs, so you could view them on-site right away.

The book search desk was touchscreen style, intuitive enough for children to use easily. When you search and print the location, paper comes out from the central printer so you could easily find the book location.

Second Floor Was Space for Me

While my child was choosing books on the first floor, I briefly went up to the second floor. From the moment I climbed the stairs, the atmosphere changed completely. I thought it was like wonderful book cafe interior.

Comprehensive Reference Room, Adults' Study

The second floor comprehensive reference room is a space for adults. Books in various fields including literature, humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences were densely packed. From the latest bestsellers to specialized academic books, there was nothing missing.

Thanks to clean white-tone interior, it felt more comfortable. There was almost no old book smell, and perhaps thanks to air purifiers placed throughout, the indoor air was also fresh.

Reading Space Was As Good As Any Cafe

There were reading spaces called Kkummaru (Dream Floor) and Chaeum-maru (Fulfillment Floor), which really had cafe-like atmosphere. Individual study seats and tables were spaciously arranged, making it optimal for studying.

I heard it's available until 9 PM on weekdays, so office workers could also stop by after work to read books or have self-development time. Even though it was weekend, seats were almost all taken, showing how popular it was.

Impressed by Latest Facilities

Latest convenience facilities were equipped throughout the library. There were unmanned loan and return kiosks so you could easily borrow and return books without librarian's help.

Book sterilizers were also provided. My child put borrowed books in the sterilizer before leaving, and it was good to be able to use books hygienically. Especially in times like these, I thought such facilities are really necessary.

Loan Period 20 Days, Up to 10 Books

Checking the book loan regulations, I found you could borrow up to 10 books per person for 20 days. It's more generous than other libraries, so I could borrow several books without burden.

My child borrowed 5 picture books and I borrowed 3 novels. Scanning membership card barcode at unmanned loan machine and recognizing book barcodes, the loan was simply completed.

Reading Month Events Also in Progress

There was a Reading Month event poster at the first floor entrance. I heard various programs are operated from September to November. There were many interesting events like reading quizzes, book talks, and meetings with authors.

Monthly themed book exhibitions are also held, and I heard you get small gifts if you complete simple activity sheets. My child said they wanted to do the activity sheet so we participated together, and received stickers and bookmarks as gifts. My child really loved it.

Must Check Operating Hours and Closed Days

There's information you must know before using the library. Sunday is closed. We went on Saturday, but if we had gone on Sunday, we would have made a wasted trip.

The reference room operates from 9 AM to 6 PM on weekdays from Monday to Friday and on Saturday. The reading space is available until 9 PM on weekdays, so please note.

Saenggangol Market Nearby Was Also Good

After using the library, we stopped by Bongdong Saenggangol Market. It's close, just 5 minutes walking distance. We spent a fulfilling weekend buying dinner ingredients at the market and eating snacks.

Since Bongdong is a region famous for ginger, we could purchase fresh ginger and agricultural products at the market. Perhaps because it was Saturday market day, it was more vibrant. I recommend a course combining library visit and market exploration.

Place I Want to Go Again Next Weekend

In the car on the way home, my child said "Dad, let's go again next week." They said it was really good because there were many books, it was clean, and comfortable.

I didn't know there was such a good library in Wanju. The facilities are state-of-the-art after renovation, and above all, it was a really good space to spend time with my child. Should I say it's an atmosphere that makes you want to read and study?

If you reside in Wanju-gun or are looking for a place to go with your child on weekends, I strongly recommend Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province Office of Education Wanju Library Kkumcheum. Use the adjacent public parking lot for parking, and note that Sunday is closed.
