오늘은 완주군 체류형 농업창업지원센터 입교식에 참여 후 우리가 함께 꿈꾸기 시작한 커뮤니티 텃밭 이야기를 나누고자 합니다.

커뮤니티 텃밭을 꿈꾸다 - 입교식 후 첫 회의

입교식 행사가 끝난 후, 우리 10세대는 센터 내 회의실에 모여 앞으로 어떻게 실습텃밭을 운영할지에 대한 첫 회의를 가졌습니다. 각자 자신의 농업 경험과 관심사를 나누는 시간이었는데, 놀랍게도 대부분이 단순한 작물 재배를 넘어 지속가능한 농업과 공동체 문화에 관심이 많았습니다.

"우리 그냥 각자 텃밭 가꾸는 것보다 함께 커뮤니티 텃밭을 만들어보면 어떨까요?" 한 참가자의 제안에 모두가 눈을 반짝였습니다. 그렇게 우리는 단순한 실습텃밭이 아닌, 모두가 함께 가꾸고 나누는 '커뮤니티 가든'을 기획해보기로 했습니다.

각양각색 아이디어가 모이다

회의는 예상보다 훨씬 활기차게 진행되었습니다. 각자가 꿈꾸는 텃밭의 모습을 자유롭게 이야기하는 시간이었는데, 다양한 배경을 가진 사람들이 모인 만큼 아이디어도 정말 다채로웠습니다.

"저는 화덕을 만들어보고 싶어요. 우리가 직접 기른 채소로 피자를 구워 먹는 모습을 상상해보세요!" 한 참가자의 제안에 모두가 웃음을 터뜨렸습니다. 하지만 곧 진지한 논의가 이어졌습니다. 화덕은 단순한 요리 도구를 넘어 공동체가 모이는 장소가 될 수 있고, 추후 농촌 체험 프로그램으로도 활용할 수 있다는 의견이 나왔습니다.

"비닐하우스도 필요할 것 같아요. 계절에 상관없이 작물을 재배할 수 있고, 초보자인 우리에게는 안정적인 환경이 중요하니까요." 다른 참가자의 실용적인 제안에도 모두가 고개를 끄덕였습니다.

가장 흥미로웠던 아이디어는 '수세미 동굴과 터널'이었습니다. "아이들이 직접 자연을 체험할 수 있는 공간이 있으면 좋겠어요. 수세미를 심어 동굴이나 터널 형태로 키우면 아이들에게 환상적인 놀이터가 될 거예요." 이 제안에 특히 아이가 있는 가정들이 큰 호응을 보였습니다.

지속가능한 농업을 향한 첫걸음

회의가 진행될수록 우리의 비전은 단순한 텃밭을 넘어 퍼머컬처(영구농업)의 개념으로 확장되었습니다. 퍼머컬처는 자연의 생태계를 모방하여 지속가능한 농업 시스템을 구축하는 철학과 디자인 방법론인데, 이 개념에 많은 분들이 공감했습니다.

"틀밭과 닭장을 연계해보면 어떨까요? 닭은 우리에게 달걀을 제공하고, 닭의 배설물은 퇴비가 되어 텃밭을 비옥하게 만들죠. 자연 순환 시스템의 좋은 예가 될 것 같아요." 이 제안은 우리에게 새로운 시각을 제공했습니다.

블루베리 화분 아이디어도 나왔습니다. "블루베리는 산성 토양을 좋아하는데, 화분에서 키우면 토양 환경을 쉽게 조절할 수 있어요. 또한 이동이 가능해서 공간 활용에도 유리하죠." 이 전문적인 조언에 모두가 귀를 기울였습니다.

커뮤니티 시설, 함께 나누는 공간

우리의 논의는 작물 재배를 넘어 사람들이 모이고 교류할 수 있는 커뮤니티 시설로 확장되었습니다. "벤치와 테이블이 있는 휴식 공간, 아이들을 위한 작은 놀이터, 수확물을 나눌 수 있는 공유 테이블 등이 있으면 좋겠어요." 다양한 의견이 오갔습니다.

특히 공감을 얻은 것은 '지식 공유 보드'였습니다. "각자가 배우고 경험한 농사 팁을 기록하고 공유할 수 있는 공간이 있으면 좋겠어요. 실패한 경험도 솔직히 나누면 모두에게 좋은 배움이 될 테니까요." 이 아이디어는 우리 커뮤니티 가든의 교육적 가치를 높일 수 있는 좋은 제안이었습니다.

현실적인 고민과 해결책

물론 이상적인 계획만 나온 것은 아니었습니다. "이 모든 것을 어떻게 실현할 수 있을까요? 예산과 노동력, 시간 등 현실적인 제약이 있을 텐데요." 현실적인 고민을 제기한 질문에 잠시 침묵이 흘렀습니다.

하지만 곧 다양한 해결책이 제시되었습니다. "단계적으로 접근하는 게 좋을 것 같아요. 우선순위를 정해서 가장 중요하고 실현 가능한 것부터 시작하는 거죠." "각자의 특기와 관심사에 따라 역할을 나누면 효율적일 것 같아요." "지역 주민들과 협력하면 경험과 자원을 나눌 수 있을 거예요."

우리는 현실적인 제약을 인정하면서도, 함께라면 불가능해 보이는 일도 조금씩 이룰 수 있다는 희망을 공유했습니다.

첫 삽을 뜨기 전, 마음의 준비

회의를 마무리하며, 우리는 다음 주부터 본격적인 작업을 시작하기로 했습니다. 각자 더 구체적인 계획과 자료를 조사해오기로 했고, 작업 일정과 역할 분담도 대략적으로 정했습니다.

 

회의를 마치고 나오는 길, 저는 문득 우리가 가꿀 텃밭의 모습을 상상해보았습니다. 화덕에서 피자를 굽는 아이들, 수세미 터널 속에서 뛰어노는 모습, 비닐하우스에서 싱그러운 채소를 수확하는 가족들... 그 모습이 너무나 선명하게 그려졌습니다.

마무리

완주군 체류형 농업창업지원센터에서의 생활은 이제 막 시작되었지만, 우리는 이미 함께 꿈꾸고 계획하며 소중한 인연을 쌓아가고 있습니다. 무엇을 어떻게, 언제부터, 어느 것부터 해야 하는지 아무것도 모르는 상황에서 우왕좌왕 좌충우돌하면서도, 서로의 지식과 경험을 나누며 조금씩 성장하고 있습니다.

앞으로의 시간이 순탄치만은 않을 것입니다. 더 많은 도전과 시행착오가 기다리고 있겠지만, 이렇게 서로의 인연이 얽히고 함께 성장해가는 맛이 귀농 생활의 진정한 즐거움이 아닐까 생각합니다.

우리가 꿈꾸는 커뮤니티 가든이 어떤 모습으로 완성될지, 앞으로의 과정이 정말 기대됩니다. 화덕, 비닐하우스, 수세미 동굴과 터널, 틀밭과 닭장, 블루베리 화분, 다양한 커뮤니티 시설들이 어우러진 우리만의 작은 낙원. 그 꿈을 향해 한 걸음씩 나아가는 여정을 앞으로도 계속 나누겠습니다.

2025 Wanju Stay-type Agricultural Entrepreneurship Support Center Entry Review - Our Dream Community Garden

Today, I'd like to share my experience with the Wanju-gun Stay-type Agricultural Entrepreneurship Support Center entrance ceremony and the story of the community garden we started dreaming about together afterward.

Preparing for Farming Life Amid a Busy Schedule

After the New Year's meeting, I spent hectic days dealing with company leave of absence, moving preparations, and children's school completion, transfer, moving in, and enrollment in new daycare centers. Time really flew by in a whirlwind.

Moving preparations were more complicated than I thought. I was busy taking care of various documents and procedures needed for moving to a new address. The issue of children's schools and daycare centers was especially concerning.

"Welcome to Wanju" - The Entrance Ceremony

I still vividly remember the excitement when I arrived at the entrance ceremony venue with a banner that read "Welcome to Wanju." The "9th Stay-type Agricultural Entrepreneurship Support Center Entrance Ceremony" held at the Wanju-gun Return to Farming and Rural Guest House on March 5th was an important event marking a new beginning for my family dreaming of returning to farming and rural life.

The head of the Return to Farming and Rural Support Center and local residents, including the head of Sangsam Village, attended the entrance ceremony to welcome us. Jung Yong-jun, the head of the Return to Farming and Rural Support Center, said, "We will operate systematic return to farming and rural programs and do our best to provide various support so that returnees to farming can settle stably."

A total of 10 households with 19 people, including my family, entered that day. We will live at the Stay-type Agricultural Entrepreneurship Support Center until December this year, receiving basic farming education and various farming experiences for successful return to farming and rural life.

Dreaming of a Community Garden - First Meeting After the Entrance Ceremony

After the entrance ceremony, our 10 households gathered in the center's meeting room for our first meeting on how to operate the practice garden. It was a time to share our farming experiences and interests, and surprisingly, most were interested in sustainable agriculture and community culture beyond simple crop cultivation.

"Why don't we create a community garden together instead of each tending our own garden?" Everyone's eyes sparkled at this suggestion. So we decided to plan not just a simple practice garden, but a 'community garden' that everyone could cultivate and share together.

Various Ideas Come Together

The meeting proceeded much more vigorously than expected. It was a time for everyone to freely talk about their dream garden, and as people with diverse backgrounds gathered, the ideas were truly varied.

"I want to make a clay oven. Imagine eating pizza with vegetables we've grown ourselves!" Everyone burst into laughter at this suggestion. But serious discussion soon followed. Opinions were raised that a clay oven could be more than just a cooking tool; it could be a place for the community to gather and could also be used for rural experience programs in the future.

"I think we'll need a greenhouse too. We can grow crops regardless of the season, and a stable environment is important for beginners like us." Everyone nodded at this practical suggestion.

The most interesting idea was the 'loofah cave and tunnel.' "I'd like to have a space where children can directly experience nature. If we plant loofahs and grow them in the form of caves or tunnels, it will be a fantastic playground for children." Families with children especially responded enthusiastically to this suggestion.

First Steps Toward Sustainable Agriculture

As the meeting progressed, our vision expanded beyond a simple garden to the concept of permaculture (permanent agriculture). Permaculture is a philosophy and design methodology that builds sustainable agricultural systems by mimicking natural ecosystems, and many people sympathized with this concept.

"How about linking raised beds and a chicken coop? Chickens provide us with eggs, and chicken manure becomes compost that enriches the garden. It seems like a good example of a natural circulation system." This suggestion provided us with a new perspective.

The idea of blueberry pots also came up. "Blueberries prefer acidic soil, and if grown in pots, the soil environment can be easily adjusted. Also, they can be moved, which is advantageous for space utilization." Everyone listened attentively to this professional advice.

Community Facilities, Spaces to Share Together

Our discussion expanded beyond crop cultivation to community facilities where people could gather and interact. "It would be nice to have a rest area with benches and tables, a small playground for children, a sharing table where harvests can be shared." Various opinions were exchanged.

What particularly resonated was the 'knowledge sharing board.' "It would be nice to have a space where everyone can record and share farming tips they've learned and experienced. Honestly sharing failed experiences would also be a good learning opportunity for everyone." This idea was a good suggestion that could enhance the educational value of our community garden.

Realistic Concerns and Solutions

Of course, not only ideal plans came up. "How can we realize all of this? There will be realistic constraints such as budget, labor, time, etc." There was a moment of silence at this question with realistic concerns.

But soon various solutions were suggested. "I think it's good to approach step by step. We start with the most important and feasible things by setting priorities." "It seems efficient to divide roles according to each person's specialty and interests." "If we cooperate with local residents, we can share experiences and resources."

While acknowledging realistic constraints, we shared the hope that together, we could gradually achieve what seemed impossible.

Preparation of Mind Before Breaking Ground

Wrapping up the meeting, we decided to start full-scale work from next week. Each of us agreed to research more detailed plans and materials, and we roughly determined the work schedule and role distribution.

On my way out after the meeting, I suddenly imagined the garden we would cultivate. Children baking pizza in the clay oven, playing in the loofah tunnel, families harvesting fresh vegetables in the greenhouse... The image was so vivid.

Conclusion

Life at the Wanju-gun Stay-type Agricultural Entrepreneurship Support Center has just begun, but we are already building precious relationships by dreaming and planning together. Even though we wander and struggle, not knowing what to do, how to do it, when to start, or where to start, we are growing little by little by sharing our knowledge and experiences.

The time ahead won't all be smooth sailing. More challenges and trials and errors await, but I think the true joy of farming life is growing together like this, with our relationships intertwined.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what our dream community garden will look like, and the process ahead. Our own small paradise where clay ovens, greenhouses, loofah caves and tunnels, raised beds and chicken coops, blueberry pots, and various community facilities harmonize. I will continue to share the journey of taking one step at a time toward that dream.
